OK, this one has me confused.
Set in the backdrop of 9/11, the movie attempts to look at the deeper question of whether terrorists are created by the very system that's trying to eliminate them. Neil Nitin Mukesh is in the US for a stint at NYU, when he meets and falls in love with the beautiful Katrina. Alas, Katrina is already head over heels for John. 9/11 happens - and while the world watches the carnage in horror, Neil watches his love crying on the John's shoulders. His dreams crushed, Neil walks away.
Cut to present day NY. The FBI is hot on the trail of a terror plot, and John is their primary suspect. Neil is arrested on charges of aiding terror, and then given a deal - help us nail John, and we will let you go. Neil turns up in the home of his old friends, his mission to spy and find out what is going on. Is his friend really a terrorist?
Katrina looks absolutely ravishing, and some of the songs will linger for a long time in your heart and on your lips. Some good action, an interesting story. But overall, Neil and John lacked punch, and the dialogues could do with some polish.
And as far as the message goes, I am perplexed by the question Neil asks of the FBI at the end - yeh sab karke humne kya paaya? I mean, we did end up preventing a major terror attack for the price of one good-guy-turned-terrorist (aren't they all good when they are born?) and his unfortunate, but knowing accomplsh in crime. Wasn't the lives of those hundreds in the FBI office worth doing this for?
Not for kids, but a worthy movie.

I always wonder how nicely the terrorists use mass media.
The system that is built to counter terrorism itself is blamed for creating terrorists.
Its like those human rights organizations who blamed Panjab Police while they were fighting Bhindranwale.
Its like those TV channels who potray Hamas and other Palestinian terror organizations as poor victims of Israels war mania.
I have stopped watching such movies.

I think that you're going very easy on the script. The movie is so not worthy!
Where do I start! Let's see.. First off, I'm very disappointed that the whole college bit was completely wasted. The director could really have captured audience's attention there. But it just comes and goes. And it doesn't even leave you with that young, happy feeling! And by the way, that scene where Kat and John express their love for each other, is very poorly done! "Tum aisa kyon karte ho?".. "Because I love you!".. What crap! And what awful direction. You don't even have an idea about how badly hurt he is. All we know is that he is lying there on ground and she is saying "I love you" for no God damn reason.
And then there is Neil Nitin Mukesh, whose character is probably the dumbest I have seen on the big screen. He asks lame ass questions! Lashes out for lame ass reasons. And half the time doesn't know what he should be doing. Like you rightly pointed out, why on earth would you ask, "Kya mila aapko ye karke?". Well, we saved thousands of lives, saved damage to property, got an award.. But none of that's worth the life of a terrorist!
And how about the scene where Neil finds out which building John is planning to blow off. And instead of giving the FBI the relevant information, he is asking them for permission to enter the very building under attack! Silly Silly Silly - written all over it!
I don't even want to talk about the message the movie sends out. It's OK to become a terrorist if you've been tortured! You'll still get a hot chick and a great friend who would completely be on your side. And the government would be wrong in trying to stop you! I mean, that justifies all terrorist acts in the world!
I absolutely abhored the movie!
