Goan Almi

Along with it's better known cousins, fish, prawns and crabs, Almi (mushrooms) is Goa's unique contribution to our gastronomic delights. Extremely rare, these mushrooms sprout from the ground only in very restricted forest areas, under specific weather conditions, for a few days every year.

Best deep fried, they make excellent gravy dishes too!

Available in packs of 100, wrapped in these large leaves...

...they take a lot of hard work, to get them rid of the caked mud...

...before ending up on your plate, to be savoured and enjoyed!
